John & Martie’s Wedding in Copper Harbor, MI

September 8, 2019

I was beyond excited to have the honor of photographing John and Martie’s wedding in Copper Harbor, Michigan for many reasons – but mostly because I have been VERY interested in visiting the Upper Peninsula (the U.P.) of Michigan for quite some time now and this was a great way to make that happen.

Copper Harbor’s website describes their town as the place “where the road ends and adventure begins.” It is a resort town and tourist destination at the very tip of the Keweenaw peninsula and at the farthest point of any other location in the State of Michigan. It’s an absolutely beautiful area on Lake Superior with an incredibly jaw-dropping spot that has panoramic views in all directions and makes you feel like you are on standing on top of the world. THAT is where the ceremony took place. At only 1,320 feet above sea level, I wasn’t expecting to be so enamored by Brockway Mountain. I mean, I live in the Appalachian Mountains in an area that sits at an elevation of approximately 3,700 feet. However, I quickly learned it isn’t about how high you are – it’s the view. And Brockway Mountain has a view!

I met the bride at Spirit of the North Wellness Center where they were getting ready.

Look at that backdrop! Isn’t that just the BEST spot for a wedding?

High above the trees…with panoramic views. Incredible. And a perfect location for portraits.

“He makes me laugh every day! He can take a really bad moment and somehow I am smiling & laughing. He has a wonderful way of spinning life into a fun adventure. He helps me slow down & enjoy life’s ride.”

— Martie, talking about John
